ModiFace Inc., developers of automated virtual makeover tools that are currently used by nearly 50 websites, today announced the launch of the iLab—an iPhone and iPad application experimentation and development laboratory. The iLab, with a dedicated team of mobile researchers, engineers, and designers, will be launching several unique titles for the iPhone and upcoming iPad in the next few weeks.
“The structure that has worked so well for us for the regular ModiFace Labs—bringing together image-processing experts and online application engineers to research and develop new and innovative web applications—will now be applied for the iPhone and iPad devices through the iLab,” said Parham Aarabi, ModiFace President and CEO.
The first two applications to be released by the iLab will be:
- Skin Match – Gone are the days of testing foundation colors in-store and leaving with an abundance of different-colored smudges all over your hands. With Skin Match, you can simply snap a photo of your skin, and it immediately suggests the closest foundation colors to your skin tone.
- MakeUp – Version 5.0 of the popular virtual makeover application will feature nearly 1000 real-life products that can be applied to a user’s own photo, including eyeshadow, lipstick, blush, and foundation. User’s can then purchase the products selected right on their iPhone, get more information about the products, or email and share their new looks with a single click.
“While we are excited about the launch of these new applications, we are most excited about what will come out in the next few months from the ModiFace iLab,” says Nikkie Gatto, ModiFace Resident Beauty Expert, who will oversee the development of the iLab’s upcoming titles.
ModiFace currently has several titles available for purchase from the iTunes App Store, including MakeUp, Face Dance, and Beauty Friends Forever. Future versions of these applications are currently under development at the iLab.

ThinkFlood (http://thinkflood.com/), maker of RedEye universal remote control products for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, today announced RedEye mini. RedEye mini is the affordable ($49), portable way to turn any iPhone, iPod touch or iPad into an advanced universal remote with free, integrated program/channel guide and infrared code database.
RedEye mini users can control their TVs, DVRs, stereos, game consoles, etc., whether they are at home or on the go, and can save button layouts for favorite activities such as, “Watch Blu-ray in Living Room,” “Listen to Music at Work,” or “Watch TV at Gym.”
“The second product in the RedEye line, the RedEye mini, continues our tradition of giving iPhone, iPod touch and iPad owners benefits previously available in remotes costing several times as much,” said ThinkFlood president and founder Matt Eagar. “We also think it’s pretty sweet that RedEye mini is the world’s smallest activity-based remote.”
Why choose RedEye mini?
- RedEye mini is the most affordable ($49), powerful, and customizable universal remote accessory for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. The free RedEye app — available through the iTunes AppStore — is constantly evolving. RedEye mini users will frequently benefit from new features and functionality via software updates.
- Unlike other iPhone remotes, RedEye mini plugs into the headphone jack, which frees the dock connector for charging while while the remote is in use. This is a significant advantage because iPhone users will not have to flip their phones upside-down to use the remote, and having a low battery will never leave users stranded without a remote.
Why is RedEye mini the best portable universal remote for iPhone, iPod and iPad?
- Infrared Code Database & Learning Module — Large, continuously updated database of manufacturer-supplied remote codes for easy set-up. Or use the learning module to quickly train RedEye mini with commands from existing remotes.
- Program and Channel Guide — Free integrated electronic program guide allows users to access program and channel information without interrupting what is happening on the TV screen.
- Unlimited Device & Command Capacity — Control a virtually unlimited number of devices; store a virtually unlimited number of commands.
- Activity Remotes — Customize personal remotes for favorite activities. Example: select useful buttons from existing remotes and place them on one screen for easy access to just the commands needed at the moment.
- Macros – Customize buttons to send out a series of commands. Examples: touch one button to mute TV volume and turn on closed captioning; touch one button to jump to ESPN.
- Customizable control – Control equipment with touchscreen buttons, Apple’s Multi-Touch gestures, and accelerometer controls. Examples: swiping two fingers down the screen can lower volume; flicking the iPhone forward can change the channel.
RedEye mini will be available this spring through the ThinkFlood website (http://thinkflood.com/), as well as through participating dealers and retailers.

ClassroomM, a company specializing in training and programming solutions for Mac, iPhone and iPad, announces the addition of online iPhone and iPad training from one of the world’s leading authors and instructors in the field, Stephen Kochan. Divided into three courses and starting with the important basics, the training teaches the aspiring developer how to write iPhone and iPad applications. Featuring more than 28 hours of live instruction, the training is available to everyone and is delivered via live webcasts divided into lectures, two times per week.
“Students can now take advantage of the latest technology to learn in their home or office for a fraction of the cost of a university or training company class. I’ve been delighted by the response from my students, who take my classes from all over the world. I’m looking forward to expanding our offerings over the course of this year,” says Stephen Kochan, CEO and President of ClassroomM.
Kochan is the author of more than 10 books on C, Unix, Mac and iPhone programming, including the Amazon.com bestseller “Programming in Objective-C 2.0.” In his new iPhone and iPad training course, Kochan provides step-by-step instructions using webcasts so that students can participate live or view the recorded lessons in the convenience of their home or office. The online course provides students the time to read the text and try exercises before the next class. If the student misses a webcast, he can always view the recorded webcast, which is available for review up to six months after completing the course.
Unlike other iPhone/iPad training courses, Kochan’s course focuses on teaching Objective-C, the programming language for iPhone and iPad. Most other courses teach iPhone/iPad SDK and tutorial programs directly, without tapping into the depth of Objective-C language fundamentals and Foundation Framework. While many find it easy to follow the sample codes provided in other courses, when it comes to programming one’s own iPhone app, students often find that their shaky Objective-C background makes it hard to implement any customized feature.
Kochan’s iPhone and iPad training course is divided into three parts. Students can register for individual parts based on their experience, or for all three. The first part teaches how to program in Objective-C 2.0. In this part, Kochan, assumes some basic programming background and guides students through live demonstrations on how to write programs in Objective-C.
Using the knowledge from part one, in part two, Kochan teaches the Foundation framework in Objective-C. The Foundation framework defines a base layer of Objective-C classes for working with objects such as numbers, strings, arrays and dictionaries. Understanding the Foundation framework is critical to becoming a successful iPhone developer. In addition, part 2 of the course features an entire lecture devoted to memory management, a critical topic to understand in order to write leak-free applications.

-FeedHenry, the cloud-based Platform-as-a-service solution for cross-platform apps, announced that its Hosted Development Environment enables users to build and run the same application across iPhone, Android, Symbian and Blackberry smartphones, and also across Web and social media sites including Facebook and MySpace. It solves the problem enterprise content providers and developers have in building different versions of complex apps for multiple environments.
FeedHenry provides a Platform-as-a-service (PaaS), one-stop shop to build, deploy and operate applications that look and perform consistently across different devices. FeedHenry’s platform significantly reduces the cost and complexity of developing multiple versions of an application providing an efficient way to extend apps across mobile, web and desktop environments. Developers of iPhone and iPad applications now have a technology baked into their apps that will enable them to react quickly to changing market demands and reuse apps for multiple devices.
FeedHenry’s solution is built on a cloud-based application-hosting environment. It provides productivity benefits because developers don’t have to reconfigure databases and servers. Development can be performed online with no set-up and installation, which cuts down on operational procedures. Unlike other software development environments, application analytics are directly integrated into the online interface.
FeedHenry has joined forces with AskMoby™ to launch a complex interactive weather application that offers users custom weather reports. It is available, not only as a mobile application for iPhone, iPad and for Vodafone 360, but also as a social web application.
“The big challenge for the market is to take the iPhone application experience and make it available across many different devices,” said Barry Downes, founder and president, FeedHenry. “As the smartphone market grows, end users will demand apps that can work across Android, Symbian, Nokia and all the other platforms out there. FeedHenry’s solution will enable any company developing applications to capitalize on the market today and be ready to draw revenue as the market changes.”
