NewsGator, the company making SharePoint social, today released two new important Enterprise 2.0 tools: SharePoint’s first native social iPhone client and social computing’s most sophisticated microblogging suite.
The iPhone client, and a companion client for the soon-to-be-released iPad, provide on-the-road users with direct access to their enterprise social computing environments without the need for a browser, an extra layer of software that can complicate a work session. As a mobile client for NewsGator Social Sites, the social computing environment most deeply integrated into the SharePoint collaboration platform, the iPhone client accesses all the relevant updates from the user’s colleagues and communities.
For the first time, mobile users can use an iPhone to:
- send status updates, videos and photos to Social Sites;
- comment on and “like” valuable updates;
- see notifications when others comment on or like your updates;
- participate in community discussions;
- target a question to a person or group;
- see the updates that you’re radiating to others;
- view updates from a specific colleague or community;
- look up contact info for colleagues;
- and more.
NewsGator will release the native iPad client for Social Sites with all of these capabilities when the new tablet device hits the market this spring.
A more powerful brand of microblogging
Microblogging is more than just tweeting ideas into the ether in hopes that someone benefits. That’s why NewsGator has fully integrated microblogging into its comprehensive social computing environment. Integrating personal status updates with automated streaming of enterprise activities addresses the strong preference for microblogging in context: By 2012, more than 50 percent of enterprises will use activity streams that include microblogging, but stand-alone enterprise microblogging will have less than 5 percent penetration, according to the Gartner research firm.

Victoria, British Columbia, Canada – SelfServeApps is announcing the launch of a new web-based iPhone app creation service this week at Macworld Expo 2010. The service is directed at creative professionals and business owners, and allows anyone to build a high-quality iPhone app from their web browser in less than an hour at a fraction of the cost of custom development.
Fees start as low as $99 for setup and $29 per month, and range depending on the package purchased. SelfServeApps enables business owners and their creative service companies to secure their business names in the Apple App Store.
Most iPhone app development companies provide custom production that can take many months and cost tens of thousands of dollars. SelfServeApps makes having an app affordable for small business owners, and gives them equal footing in the mobile market. “One of our motivations is to help local and regional operators compete with large corporations with a low cost, high quality app,” said Doug Pelton, CEO and founder of SelfServeApps.
Those offering web-based services to date, like Mobile Roadie and AppMakr, have focused on the vanity app market where the majority of customers are bands, celebrities or just individuals wanting to mobilize their social networks. SelfServeApps’ primary market is web developers, ad agencies, PR firms and other creative companies who in turn offer it as a service to their customers. This effectively adds iPhone apps to their service mix overnight without the traditional overhead costs and risks.
As partners, creative professionals earn recurring revenue, receiving a 50% discount on all fees.
There is no programming involved and they can reuse the web content and graphics they have already produced for their clients. A dashboard is included to manage multiple projects and a content management system makes updates to applications easy, without having to resubmit to the App Store. Businesses with many locations will appreciate their app’s Store Locator functionality and the bulk upload feature.
Currently the fees range from $99 (USD) for setup and $29 monthly up to $499 for setup and $99 monthly. All packages include the ability to integrate mobile web pages so businesses can offer their customers the convenience of placing orders from their iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.
The company is focusing exclusively on the iPhone platform since Apple was responsible for 99.4% of all mobile app sales up to January of this year.

Sanho Corporation , the company behind the award-winning HyperMac External MacBook Batteries, introduces the HyperMac Nano, HyperMac Micro and HyperMac Mini – three pocket-sized, lithium-ion battery packs for charging iPhones, iPods, iPads and other USB-powered devices on-the-go.
All three models are exquisitely encased in aluminum and available in any of Apple’s nine iPod nano colors (black, silver, pink, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple) plus a darker (iPhone) black color. Users will be spoilt for choice when choosing the right battery pack to match their iPhone or iPod.
The 1800mAh HyperMac Nano is the world’s only iPhone/iPod lithium-ion battery pack with a built-in charging cable and holds enough power to fully recharge an iPhone 1.5 times. Unlike traditional battery packs with built-in rigid connectors, the HyperMac Nano features a flexible connector cable to allow the battery to move freely from the device, instead of simply sticking out of the base of the iPhone/iPod, which increases the chance of damage to the iPhone/iPod socket.
Unlike most iPhone battery packs or iPhone cases cum battery in the market, HyperMac batteries works with virtually all iPhone cases, does not add bulk or affects the antenna of the iPhone.
“iPhone users have long suffered from the iPhone’s short battery life and dull utilitarian plastic battery pack solutions,” states Daniel Chin, President of Sanho Corporation. “HyperMac will no doubt breathe a fresh air to this tired industry,” he adds. “With its striking colors and attractive non-battery-like looks, for once there will be a battery pack that appeals to both women and men alike,” he concludes.
Like its big brother, the HyperMac Nano/Micro/Mini batteries uses the same “Grade A” high-end lithium ion cells that are supplied to the U.S. military, providing unsurpassed reliability, safety and longevity. It is rechargeable up to 1,000 times and comes with a ONE-year warranty – comparing to industry standards of only 300 recharges and 3 months warranty. All HyperMac batteries also support pass through charging so the user can charge both battery and device at the same time.
The HyperMac Nano, HyperMac Micro and HyperMac Mini are now available at HyperMac.com for $69.95, $89.95 and $119.95 respectively. As a launch promotion, there is currently a $20 discount on all HyperMac Nano/Micro/Mini batteries.

Wi-Ex, the leading provider of consumer cell phone signal boosters for the home, office and car, provides consumers with the perfect “i-accessory” for their iPhone, iTouch and the upcoming iPad. Showcased today at Macworld Conference & Expo in booth 1390, Wi-Ex’s zBoost suite of products allow consumers to take full advantage of voice, data and Internet services on their iPhone and other mobile phones and data devices including 3G high-speed data and video, instant messaging, pictures and more at home, in your personal workspace, in the office or on the go both within the U.S. and abroad.
“Even as carriers continue to push to expand their 3G networks, poor indoor cell phone signal continues to be a problem for more than 65 percent of cell phone owners. The iPhone and many of the smartphones have indoor signal problems, especially in larger cities,” said Lloyd R. Meese, CEO of Wi-Ex. “The use of the data functions on the iPhone require a stronger signal and although, some indoor signal problems may be blamed on the iPhone or the carrier network, some of the dropped calls and general loss of coverage is due to environmental obstructions, building materials, metal roofs, high-speed data (reduces coverage) and network interference. The zBoost improves signal strength for better voice and data transmission while maintaining the integrity of the carriers’ networks using patent-pending technology. We see it as the perfect i-accessory for all iPhone users.”
The annual zBoost “State of the Cell Signal” Survey, commissioned by Wi-Ex and conducted by Harris Interactive®, revealed that 67 percent of cell phone owners experience problems including poor quality and 49 percent claim to have done something special to improve signal strength in order to make or receive a call in their home. In addition, the survey, fielded December 8 – 10, 2009 via Harris’ online omnibus survey, found that 67 percent of cell phone owners use data functions on their cell phones and, of those, nearly 60 percent (57 percent) experience problems with their cell phone service while using data functions.

Cologne, Germany – Announcing that ditter.projektagentur GmbH, the developers of Food Guide, today released an App for those interested in European foods. The application is a unique blend of European food product information, consumer report and translation assistance. Food Guide, designed by a publisher and food journalist, contains approximately 1,500 different foods in eighteen categories and three languages, making it a handy reference for use in any country.
The Food Guide app has proven a labor of love for the developers, publisher Michael Ditter and renowned German food editor, Ingeborg Pils. As world travelers with an interest in unusual and rare European food products, it only seemed natural to share their passion and findings with other foodies via the iPhone, especially since most items can be found worldwide in restaurants and import stores. That means that the app is as useful to North Americans as it is to Europeans.
Together, Ditter and Pils spent nine long, hard months researching and assembling content and photos for translation. Says Ditter, “Ingeborg Pils did tons of research and wrote the text, which was edited then translated in preparation of the final product. We made about two thousand new product photos for the app, as well.”
All their hard work paid off. The app was released in late October of 2009. In December of the same year, just two months after the launch, Food Guide achieved the status of Number One App in the Lifestyle category and placed twenty six of all apps in the Apple store in Germany. It was also featured in the Apple’s “What’s Hot” spotlight.
Food Guide is not a cooking app. Rather, it is a consumer guide which provides extensive information and review on gourmet European food products. There are nearly four hundred very detailed entries for various cheeses, alone. Everything is organized into eighteen chapters, which can be searched easily by users. All of the products have at least one beautiful photo and a star rating, indicating the enjoyment level of the product by Europeans. Five stars is an excellent score; one star suggests that a user may want to avoid that item.
Of course, one of the most unique features of the Food Guide app needs to be mentioned and that is the multilingualism. Products names are listed in five languages and described in three languages – English, German and Spanish. This lends an incredibly helpful versatility to the application, allowing users to travel in foreign lands and still be able to understand what they’re ordering and eating. It’s also very useful in North America, where European food products can be found in restaurants and stores that sell imported foods. As the app even covers ingredients, avid cooks can find unusual herbs and spices for their own culinary creations.
Food Guide Features:
* Extremely attractive, easy to use interface
* Multilingual Dictionary with approximately 1,500 European food products and ingredients
* Translation assistance for English, German and Spanish
* Products names are listed in English, German, Spanish, French and Italian
* Scientific names included in descriptions
* Offers product knowledge and consumer reports
* App has 18 comprehensive chapters
* Shows 1-5 star rating of enjoyment level
* Versatile search functions
* Runs offline after app is downloaded
* Created and prepared by experts in the field
* Lite version with 100 entries is available for free
* ‘Favorites’ feature lets you earmark products that you want to return to
* Ideal for anyone who likes eating, cooking, trying new foods at home, in a restaurant or while traveling and for those in the food industry
There is no other application like Food Guide. It is a unique first, offering European food product details, consumer reviews and ratings, all in three different languages. The app is a must have for all hard core ‘foodies’ and those who are looking to expand their culinary horizons.
Food Guide 1.1 is only $3.99 (USD) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Lifestyle category.
