Sophia Antipolis, France – L’Escapadou is pleased to announce that Montessori Crosswords will be free on September 3rd, as part of Moms with Apps’ AppFriday. Based on the proven Montessori learning method, the app helps kids develop their writing/reading skills by building words from a set of pictures shown. The app provides 282 words and associated pictures sorted by their phonetic complexity. At the time of writing, Montessori Crosswords is ranked #22 in USA top paid iPad education App and its average rating is 4 stars.
Montessori Crosswords provides an amusing way to learn letters for children as young as 3, and can be used by children up to 10 or more to improve and reinforce their word-spelling and literacy skills. The game offers a complete movable alphabet, is auto-corrective, and the 3 increasingly difficult levels are based on the word series defined in the Montessori teaching according to the phonetic difficulty of each word.
The app has also been designed to have fun with the iPad, and one of the 21 colorful visual effects – based on a particle system – is displayed every time a crossword is completed. Other animations and sounds effects are also included to create a great and fun user experience.
Next update will support iPhone (high resolution on iPhone4) and add the possibility to interact with the visual effects displayed every time a crossword is completed for even greater fun. This update has already been submitted to Apple and should be available next week. We will also add word pronunciation in an update due end of September.
Montessori Crosswords also features a standalone movable alphabet providing open-ended activities with letters for young children who don’t know letters and their phonetic sounds yet. An article including a quick introduction to the Montessori approach to reading and writing, and how to use the game as an educational tool, is also provided.
Montessori Crosswords was created after we observed our homeschooled daughter having fun with a Montessori picture-spelling activity. We wanted to recreate this experience in a lighweight format, adding all the fun that the iPad/iPhone technology can bring, such as direct interactions, animations and sounds, as well as automatic crosswords construction.
This one-day free download is offered in cooperation with MomsWithApps, of which L’Escapadou is a member. Moms With Apps is a collaborative group of family-friendly developers seeking to promote quality apps for kids and families. App Friday is a weekly feature on a family-friendly developer from Moms With Apps. The goal is to highlight one of the developer’s apps with a review and description, along with a free download or special promotion.

Dublin, Ohio – FourthFrame Technologies has announced a new iPad app for managing project risk: SG Risk Log. SG Risk Log expands the Simple Genius Apps suite to the critical domain of risk management. With a design based on the popular app SG Project (formerly Project Pad), SG Risk Log is likely to be met with a warm welcome from savvy business managers who understand risk management as a tool for success.
Risk Management has come to iPad. “Risk Management is a critical function for the success of projects, and we’ve introduced the first and only risk management app available for the iPad today,” said Ty Jacobs of FourthFrame Technologies, designer of SG Risk Log. “For those project managers who have learned the value of disciplined risk management through hard knocks and also take advantage of the mobility offered by the iPad, this app is the answer.”
SG Risk Log helps project managers maintain a list of project risks with due dates, specific owners, a mitigation strategy, and a history of notes. The manager can set the Likelihood that each risk will occur and the Severity to the project, should it occur. SG Risk Log then calculates a Rating score for each risk and highlights medium and severe risks. A table view allows sorting by Rating, Owner, or Due Date. A PDF file of risks can be created and emailed directly from within the app – a simple way to remind the risk owners of their responsibilities.
SG Risk Log has a look-and-feel similar to FourthFrame’s popular apps SG Project (for project scheduling) and SG Action Log (for action item management), lessening the learning curve for users of the suite. The Simple Genius Apps suite has over 3500 customers worldwide, and FourthFrame is committed to continue growing and improving the suite, with an emphasis on listening to customer feedback. And that’s great news for project managers on the move.
Device Requirements
* Compatible with iPad
* Requires iPhone OS 3.2 or later
* 1.9 MB
Pricing and Availability:
SG Risk Log 1.0 is initially $5.99 (USD) and available now worldwide exclusively on the App Store in the Business category.

Dublin, OH – FourthFrame Technologies has announced a new iPad app for managing action items: SG Action Log. SG Action Log expands the Simple Genius Apps suite to the ubiquitous domain of action item management. With a design based on the popular app SG Project (formerly Project Pad), SG Action Log is likely to be met with a warm welcome from business managers who leverage action item management as a tool for success.
Action Item Management has come to iPad. “This is such a common activity in business that we were surprised at the lack of support for it on the iPad,” said Ty Jacobs of FourthFrame Technologies, designer of SG Action Log. “We are confident that Project Managers will embrace this new app but it doesn’t stop there – action item management is a simple but powerful discipline for any team manager and leads to success.”
SG Action Log helps managers maintain a list of actions with due dates, specific owners, a priority, and a history of notes. This ensures that tasks don’t fall through the cracks and that action owners are held accountable for achieving stated goals on time. “Not rocket science,” says Jacobs, “but experienced managers know the power of this discipline”. FourthFrame saw a perfect fit for action item management within the Simple Genius Apps suite, which is designed to bring mobility and simplicity to management activities. SG Action Log has a look-and-feel similar to FourthFrame’s popular SG Project app, lessening the learning curve for users of the suite.
FourthFrame is also committed to growing the Simple Genius Apps suite, so this second member is just one step down that road. And their approach of continual refinement based on customer feedback from real-world usage should ensure the future of Simple Genius Apps as a popular set of tools for real business on the iPad.
