San Francisco, California – Announcing that Innoblock Japan Inc., the developer of kiRay Camera, has just released the latest update for iPhone, iPod touch users. kiRay Camera 1.2 is a one of a kind app that lets users enhance and adjust photos, as they take them, with a single tap of the screen. This app is also great for repairing those less than perfect quality older photos that users just can’t bring themselves to delete. The app uses the device’s existing camera, and its three levels of one-touch adjustment assure that users get exactly the result they want, every time.

kiRay Camera 1.2 features include:
* Automatically adjusts common photo defects
* Preview and repair photos as you shoot them
* Swipe to compare “Before” and “After”
* Correct older photos that are already on your roll
* Three levels of adjustment: Neutral, Weak, and Strong
* Share photos with Facebook Connect
* Upload images to Picasa photo album
* Supports 2 languages (English and Japanese)

KiRay Camera operates seamlessly as part of the device’s existing camera. That means it enhances an already great camera with new features like flash and anti-shake compensation that other photography apps do not have. The simple one tap controls make it as easy to correct images as it was to capture them in the first place.

This app uses the same features and capabilities to enhance older photos that are already on the user’s camera roll. KiRay Camera 1.2 offers 3 levels of automatic adjustment, Weak, Neutral, and Strong. Users simply select a level and tap the screen. The app’s unique algorithm automatically detects and adjusts common defects without you having to learn complicated photo editing skills. By swiping the screen to “Flip”, they can compare the enhanced image to the original. They can further improve the picture quality by selecting a stronger level or tapping the button several times to add new effects.

Once the user is satisfied with their image, the app makes it easy to save to their camera roll, share on Facebook, or upload to a Picasa album.

Device Requirements:
* iPhone, iPod touch
* Requires iOS 1.3 or later
* Premium Version – 0.9 MB
* Free version – 0.7 MB

Pricing and Availability:
KiRay Camera 1.2 is only $1.99 (USD), but there is also a free trial version. Both are available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Photography category. Promo codes are available for qualified reviewers. Please specify the website or blog you represent when making your request.

Minsk, Belarus – Happymagenta today is pleased to announce the release of Spyglass 2.0, a major update to their popular digital compass and HUD display for iPhone 3GS devices. Developed specifically to leverage the iPhone’s unique capabilities, Spyglass is a fun-to-use multi-function augmented reality tool and heads-up display with a live compass, GPS information, as well as tilt horizon – right over the live feed from the built-in camera, (or even an auto-rotated map), turning any iPhone into a sophisticated location-aware viewfinder.

Featuring an easy-to-use interface, Spyglass includes a milspec compass, GPS locations and constant bearings tracker and finder, sun and moon tracker, inclinometer, sextant, rangefinder, angular calculator, camera (with 5x digital zoom), maps, and lots of other useful features. It is useful for all types of outdoor activities from marking and then finding the car, camp or hotel, as well as during hunting, fishing, hiking, scouting, seafaring, sports and touring.

Just like in airplanes, sci-fi movies or military-styled night vision binoculars, Spyglass works in any orientation encompassing a three-dimensional space. While viewing through the iPhone’s built-in camera, tilt or rotate the device to see incredibly detailed, live information in any direction. All Spyglass features, such as digital zoom, color filters, HUD colors and imperial or metric units are easily configurable.

Feature Highlights:
* Heads-up display style (like in planes or sci-fi movies)
* Compass (milspec, working with any orientation)
* Multiple destinations and bearings tracker (AR)
* Sun and Moon positions tracker (AR)
* Add or edit custom destinations and bearings
* Rhumb line (nautical) navigation
* Sextant (AR), inclinometer and angular calculator
* Stadiametric optical rangefinder (300-1500ft or 100-500m)
* Measure vertical, horizontal, spherical angles
* Measure distance to or size of objects
* GPS (coordinates, altitude, speed, course)
* Maps with autorotation
* Digital zoom camera (up to 5x)
* Take photos into the album
* Milspec, imperial or metric units (+MGRS WGS84)
* Variety of HUD colors and color filters
* Highly configurable

“The idea behind Spyglass was initially to create a fun as well as useful tool similar to binoculars that are commonly used in sci-fi, military and action movies.,” said Pavel Ahafonau, founder and CEO of Happymagenta. “And with over 100 changes in total, this huge update of Spyglass has matured from being mostly a fun tool into being mostly useful one. And of course, there is even more fun too.”

Version 2.0 users can easily take pictures and screenshots that are properly oriented and stored into the photo album, as well as show the user location pin on a map, and easily switch between backwards or classic compass.

Spyglass now allows simultaneous tracking of multiple targets (GPS locations or constant bearings) that can be added either manually or by using maps. Current positions of targets that are being tracked (including sun and moon) are displayed as augmented reality markers (as bearing hints) on a compass when they are not in sight of a camera. The compass and spyglass itself were designed to milspec devices, and work in any orientation. Spyglass supports military units for angles (angular mils) and locations (MGRS). For nautical and marine activities Spyglass supports navigating along thumb lines.

The sextant and built-in angular calculator are used to measure distance to, and/or size of remote objects. Improved reliability and precision are reached when visually measuring angles by using augmented reality markers that help to properly orient the device – spherical coordinate mapping and all scales are close to real camera field of view and dependant on current zoom that makes positioning of scale markers more precise. And just like the rangefinder used in sniper scopes, Spyglass’ built-in optical rangefinder helps to quickly measure approximate distance to objects of known size. Scale is 300-1500ft (100-500m) for objects with height of 5.6ft (1.7m).

Device Requirements:
* iPhone 3GS
* Requires iPhone OS 3.1 or later
* 0.5 MB
* Internet Connection (for Maps feature)
Spyglass 2.0 is only $0.99 (USD) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Navigation category. Review copies are available upon request.

Happymagenta releases Spyglass 2.0 for iPhone 3GS

Author: editor | Filed under: iphone

Sammamish, Washington – Juicy Bits today released a free update to 3D Camera for iPhone, an app that makes it easy to create 3D photos and share them with friends on Facebook and Twitter. 3D Camera earned 4.5 mice (out of 5) from Macworld and is frequently among the top 100 photography apps worldwide.

To create a 3D image, left and right photos are captured using the built-in camera. An enhanced camera overlay includes three different alignment modes and a “ghost” feature to easily align the two images. If the left and right photos have already been taken, they can be selected from the iPhone photo album.

Next, the two images are repositioned to control the apparent depth of the final 3D photo. Moving the right image to the right causes it to recede back into the screen, while moving it to the left causes it to “pop out.” 3D Camera creates color and grey anaglyph images that are viewed using common red/cyan 3D glasses, stereogram images that are viewed without glasses (parallel and cross-eyed), and “wigglegram” images that produce a simulated 3D effect.

The final 3D photo can be saved to the iPhone photo album for later use, sent to a friend via e-mail, or sent to Facebook and Twitter. Many custom settings are available to control the size, quality, and method used to produce the final 3D image. A “More” button provides access to a short, online video tour and additional documentation.

Feature Highlights:
* Enhanced camera that makes it easy to take two side-by-side photos
* Three different camera alignment modes
* Ability to send 3D photos to Facebook, Twitter, and e-mail
* Touch interface to realign and reposition images
* Automatic cropping of re-aligned images
* Grey and color anaglyph creation
* Parallel and cross-eyed stereogram support for photos that don’t require 3D glasses
* Wigglegram mode for a fun, simulated 3D effect
* Integrated instruction screen with “More” button to access an online video tour and additional documentation
* Button to swap the original photos
* App setting to choose the working image size (100%, 75%, 50%, 25%)
* App setting to enable/disable automatic saving of camera photos
* App setting to automatically boost saturation and brightness of Color and Grey anaglyphs
* App setting to control the size of stereogram borders (and to eliminate them)
* App setting to enable/disable stereogram alignment dots
* App setting to limit the maximum Twitter image dimensions (1024, 800, 640)
* App setting to select the color anaglyph method (full color, half color, optimized, and red/blue)
* App setting to bypass the introduction screen
3D Camera 1.3.3 is $1.99 (USD) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Photography category.

Juicy Bits Updates 3D Camera for iPhone

Author: editor | Filed under: applications

Zwijndrecht, Belgium – Galarina today is pleased to announce GeoLogTag 3.0, an update to their popular photo geotagging solution for iPhone and iPod touch devices. Featuring a comfortable and simple user interface, GeoLogTag aims to make the cumbersome process of geotagging photos as easy as possible. It offers an all-in-one geotagging solution for photos taken with any digital camera, and was developed specifically to take advantage of the iPhone’s unique capabilities and touch interface.

GeoLogTag has no settings. While photos are taken with a digital camera (DSLR, point and shoot), GeoLogTag continuously tracks the user’s location just like a traditional GPS data logger. Among only one of GeoLogTag’s unique features is its ability to log locations every 3, 5, 10 or 60 minutes to prolong battery life. If the photos are stored on a Mac or on Flickr, GeoLogTag geotags the photos using the logged locations. Windows users can geotag their photos by using the GPX file generated by GeoLogTag in combination with a Windows geotagging application.

Feature Highlights:
* Comfortable and simple User Interface
* Continuously tracks the users location
* Supports all major cameras, including DSLR, point and shoot
* Log locations every 3, 5, 10 or 60 minutes to prolong battery life
* Supports all image formats, including RAW
* Continuous log mode: 6 to 7 hours
* Log every 3: 9 to 10 hours
* Log every 5: 12 to 14 hours
* Log every 10: 24 hours
* Log every 60: several days

“From day one, the Apple philosophy started from the user. A user should not be confronted with technical hurdles. He just wants to get a job done,” said Chris Cornelis, founder and CEO of Zwijndrecht, Belgium based Galarina. “As a long time Mac user and passionate amateur photographer, I created GeoLogTag based from my own experience with geotagging photos. While the geotagging functionality that comes with the iPhone’s built-in camera is pretty neat, the possibilities of the camera are limited when compared with my Nikon D80. This convinced me to start development on an app which extended the devices capabilities, and so GeoLogTag was born.”

Version 3.0 is a major update, and sports many new enhancements, such as an extra log mode for logging a location every hour, support for altitude, and better support for travelers going through different timezones. GeoLogTag now offers geotagging support for photos in RAW format. Supported formats include Nikon (NEF), Canon (CR2), Sony (ARW, SR2), Olympus (ORF), Pentax (PEF), Kodak (DCR, KDC), Epson (ERF), Panasonic (RAW, RW2), Mamiya (MEF), and Hasselblad (3FR).

Macintosh users will experience a major performance enhancement for geotagging JPEGs, approximately 10 times as fast compared with version 2.2.1. Users can now login to a Mac shared folder with their user name and password, and GeoLogTag shows a running clock at startup to make syncing with a digital camera easier. The application now displays a rough estimation of how much battery is left during geologging. Estimates will become better as GeoLogTag “learns” about the user’s battery.

Device Requirements:
* iPhone or iPod touch running 3.0 or later
* 0.7 MB
* Mac OS 10.5 or higher

Pictional LLC today released TrueHDR 1.0.1 – an iPhone photography app for creating high dynamic range (HDR) images. TrueHDR is the first app for the iPhone that does HDR in the true sense, in that it combines two photos taken at different exposures and presents a higher dynamic range than a single photo can capture.

TrueHDR is designed to address the issue that cameras can only capture limited dynamic range in a single photo. In other words, when people take photos of a scene that has a large range from bright to dark, they often have to choose between the bright areas and the dark areas – if a picture is appropriately exposed for the bright areas (e.g., a sunny sky with clouds), then the dark areas (e.g., a person standing in the shade under a tree) often become gray or black blobs with no details. Vice versa, if a picture is correctly exposed for the dark areas, the bright areas get washed out and look like white haze.

TrueHDR allows users to take two photos on an iPhone 3GS with the in-app autofocus camera, tapping on a bright area to adjust exposure for the first image and tapping on a dark area to adjust exposure for the second image. TrueHDR then uses sophisticated computational techniques to automatically align, merge, and optimize the resulting image for display. It also allows users to select a pair of saved images, taken with the iPhone 3GS or another camera with variable exposure settings, and merge them into one HDR image.

The output is a photo with vivid colors and details in both the bright and the dark areas. It is often much closer to what users’ eyes originally saw. In the current release of TrueHDR, output resolution (max 960×960) is ideal for posting to Facebook, Flickr, blogs, etc. Higher resolution is a priority for the company and Pictional is working to increase the output resolution for future releases.

Features:
* In-app camera – streamlines the process by allowing users to capture starting images at different exposures with the iPhone 3GS autofocus camera without ever leaving the app (NOTE: only applies for iPhone 3GS).
* Photo albums integration – users can select saved images, taken with the iPhone 3GS or another camera with variable exposures, as starting images for creating an HDR image.
* No tripod necessary – as long as users make an effort to keep the camera pointing in the same direction, it’s OK to have some hand movement between shots. The app will align the images and match up the details.
* Sophisticated algorithms – TrueHDR uses state of the art techniques behind the scenes, resulting in the final HDR image.
* Inspect results – users can pinch, zoom and pan around in portrait or landscape to check out the resulting HDR photo.
* Share results – the results screen lets users directly compose and send emails with result photos.
* Detailed instructions page with videos – accessible within the app.

Hunter Research and Technology today announces the immediate worldwide availability of Theodolite 1.0 on the iTunes App Store. This multi-function augmented reality app for the iPhone serves as a compass, GPS, map, zoom camera, and two-axis inclinometer.

Based on the concept of a centuries-old astronomical instrument, Theodolite overlays real-time information about position, altitude, bearing, and horizontal/vertical inclination on the iPhone’s live camera image, turning the iPhone into a sophisticated location-aware viewfinder. Uses are endless, from land surveying to basic navigation, and the app is great for hiking, boating, sightseeing, photography, and sports.

Theodolite lets users take camera images directly from the app, with 2X and 4X digital zoom options. Geographical data can be stamped on the saved image for later reference. Current position can be viewed on the built-in map, with standard, satellite, and hybrid modes. On an iPhone 3GS, bearing is updated live on the map with both fixed view and world rotation.
