Sophia Antipolis, France – One month after the release of version 1.0 for the iPad, Montessori Crosswords 1.1 now also runs on iPhone (HD on iPhone 4). L’Escapadou has taken great care to adapt the app to the smaller screen in order to ensure the same level of user experience. In addition, it is now possible to interact with the visual effects displayed every time a crossword is completed for even greater fun.

Montessori Crosswords 1.0 has been on the iPad Education Top 40 Best Sellers list for one month and was featured by Apple as a “What’s Hot” product and a “New & Noteworthy” release under the iPad education category. At the time of writing, its average rating on the App Store is above 4 stars (22 ratings).

CommonSenseMedia awarded Montessori Crosswords 1.0 4 stars on a scale of 5, and wrote the following review: “The best edutainment apps are able to teach kids without condescending to them, and MONTESSORI CROSSWORDS (available only on the iPad) is a beautiful example of this. Its presentation is fun and aesthetically pleasing, but not too sugary as to turn off older kids (the app targets kids as old as 10 and as young as 3). With a database of nearly 300 words and their corresponding pictures, along with tens of thousands of possible crosswords, Montessori Crosswords is a great way for kids to develop literacy in an engaging way that feels like play”.

Montessori Crosswords was created after the founders of L’Escapadou observed their home-schooled daughter having fun with a Montessori picture-spelling activity. They wanted to recreate this experience in a lightweight format, adding all the fun that the iPad/iPhone technology can bring, such as direct interactions, animations and sounds, as well as automatic crosswords construction.

Features:
* Three word series of increasing difficulty as defined in the Montessori method according to the phonetic difficulty of each word
* Level 1 (corresponding to the simplest word series) displays only one word to make the game easier for beginner writers/readers
* In levels 2 and 3, crosswords are created randomly to offer tens of thousands of different combinations (exactly 93,696 for level 3)
* 21 fun, colorful and interactive visual effects displayed every time a crossword is completed to add some fun
* Solutions are always accessible to kids so that they can check spelling on their own, when they feel they need to
* Also featured is a Standalone Movable Alphabet to provide open-ended activities with letters for young children who don’t know letters and their phonetic sounds yet. Letters can be moved, rotated and resized
* Packed with animations and sounds to create a fun and enjoyable experience
* An article on how to use the game as an educational tool following the Montessori principles is provided with the game
* Letter case choice
* Alphabet Layout choice – alphabetical or vowels first and consonants at the end as in Montessori
* Montessori standard colors for vowels and consonants
* Total number of completed words displayed

Device Requirements:
* Compatible with iPad, iPhone and iPod touch
* Requires iPhone OS 3.1 or later
* 10.8 MB

Pricing and Availability:
Montessori Crosswords 1.1 is $2.99 USD for one week only. Regular price is $4.99 USD (or equivalent amount in other currencies). Christchurch, New Zealand – MiniMonos, the sustainability-focused virtual world for children, today launched its first iPhone app, MiniMonos Flight 1.0. Players of the game become flying monkeys, and have to tilt their iPhones left and right to swoop through the sky, collecting wind clouds and avoiding energy-sapping pollution clouds. Trampolines on the ground provide bouncing rescues to monkeys that get too low.

MiniMonos Flight is an iPhone adaptation of the game on its website, the popular children’s virtual world. Banana chips scored on the iPhone app can be posted to your MiniMonos account.

“We had a great time adapting MiniMonos Flight to the iPhone,” says Greg Montgomery, MiniMonos’ Chief Technical Officer. “It’s quite gratifying to fly in the game by physically moving the device.”

As the iPhone app was receiving the green light from Apple, MiniMonos passed another milestone: inspired by the company’s core values of sustainability, generosity, community and fun, more than 32,000 children from more than 150 countries have now registered for the virtual world. The team at MiniMonos will be continually updating the iPhone app, as well as launching new apps based on the other games in the MiniMonos virtual world like R.A.T.S. (Recycle All This Stuff), Go Go Green, and Monkey Fist.

Device Requirements:
* iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad
* Requires iPhone OS 3.1 or later
* 4.3 MB

Pricing and Availability:
MiniMonos Flight 1.0 is $1.99 USD (or equivalent amount in other currencies) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Games category.

MiniMonos is a virtual world for children: a place of fun, beauty, discovery, generosity, sustainability and friendship. MiniMonos was created by Melissa Clark-Reynolds so that children could have a place of their own, a place that allows them to explore and grow without constant pressure to buy stuff. It’s a place that embodies core values like sustainability and generosity, without turning those values into a boring lecture. Children’s in-world treehouses require care and nourishment in order to flourish – just like our planet. The games they play are fun games – with a connection to our core values. MiniMonos’ aim is to continually answer the question: What would a virtual world for children look like if sustainability were a given and we could just focus on entertainment? Create and Share Stunning eCards on New iPad App

Author: editor | Filed under: News

Munich, Germany – Announcing Entwicklungsschmiede UG (haftungsbeschrankt) & Co KG, the developer of Durion Word Game, has launched a new product for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad users. Developers are offering the addictively fun word game at a price that’s enjoyable, too. For seven days, the Scrabble inspired app will be selling for only 99 cents, instead of its regular $1.99. Durion provides lots of mental challenge as users try to form words from a group of letters, in five seconds or less. Players with the highest scores make it to the national and global leaderboards.

The low sale price is being offered for seven days in celebration of the game’s debut in the U.S. marketplace. Originally from Germany, Durion has been adapted to an English speaking market, so that North American players can share in the fun and challenge.

Durion gamers must think and act fast to form words from letters provided within the five second time limit. According to developer Holger Frank, “The basic inspiration was the mother of all offline word games – Scrabble. We mixed the letter-combination with a time factor and a couple of strategic add-ons, and Durion was born.”

The idea is to develop a personal strategy to increase playing speed and scores. The faster that more correct words are built, the higher the points and the better chance a user has to see their name on the national or international leaderboards.

These are some of the features that developers are offering in Durion:
* Extremely fun and addictive
* Provides mental challenge and sharpens brain power
* Innovative and intuitive
* Easy-to-use interface
* Quick drag and drop controls
* National and global highscore lists
* Facebook Connect
* Lots of bonuses!

Information about this special offer, or about purchase and downloading can be found on the Durion website or on the Durion Word Game page on iTunes.

Device Requirements:
* iPhone and iPod touch, iPad
* Requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later
* 6.8 MB

Pricing and Availability:

Paris, France – Announcing that Interactive Studio, the developers of Let’s Discover Animals, today released an application specifically for very young children. This app is new, offering a fun way for toddlers twelve months and older to learn what twenty different animals look and sound like, as well as how to name them in one or all three available languages – English, French or Spanish. Let’s Discover Animals is also good to use for some extra cuddle time with little ones.

Let’s Discover Animals is the perfect educational tool for children twelve months old and up. The app features twenty popular animals, complete with high quality, original drawings and photos that appeal to very young kids. Inspired by the developer’s own child, the application draws a little one’s attention with its original music and holds it with the app’s visual and audio treats. Kids can hear the sounds each animal makes, as well as how to pronounce their name in English, French and Spanish. The child’s memory will be stimulated, right along with their curiosity.

Features:
* For young children 12 months of age and over
* 22 animals with high quality and original drawings
* Three language audio translation of animal names – English, French, Spanish spoken in a different voice for each
* Original music
* Helps develop memory and motricity in very young children
* Children learn in a really fun way
* Provides a bonding opportunity between parent and child
* Easy to use interface

Let’s Discover Animals is easy to use. Parents need only to open the app and go to the animal list to select one for their toddler to learn about. The functionality of the app allows for scrolling to the next or previous animal. Perhaps the biggest benefit of Let’s Discover Animals is the increase of quality cuddling and bonding between parent and child. Little ones don’t realize that they’re being taught, they just think they’re having fun and spending time with mom or dad.

Pricing and Availability:
Let’s Discover Animals 1.0 is only $0.99 (USD) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Education category.
