April 15, 2010 — The Princeton Review and Modality, Inc. today announced the GRE Vocab Challenge App for iPhone and iPod touch is available on the App Store. The app is a graduate school admissions exam resource that measures a user’s mastery of 250 words, as identified by The Princeton Review.

Master 250 of the most commonly tested words on the GRE, as identified by The Princeton Review.

“The GRE is highly vocabulary dependent. The more words you know, the higher your GRE score, which can help students get into top graduate programs and facilitate their long-term career goals,” said Robert Franek, VP/Publisher of The Princeton Review. “We are excited to build on the success of the SAT® Vocab Challenge apps we made with Modality, now offering prospective graduate school applicants the fast-paced fun and convenience of test prep on iPhone and iPod touch.”

Modality created a custom framework for The Princeton Review’s vocabulary apps that takes full advantage of the innovative Multi-Touch user interface of iPhone and iPod touch and includes the following features:

  • 250 commonly tested words on the GRE, as identified by The Princeton Review’s survey of past tests.
  • Four distinct types of timed challenges to test the user on each word’s positive or negative connotation, synonyms, antonyms, and definition.
  • Students can select answers quickly by swiping the screen or shaking the device.
  • Performance is tracked by the app itself, so at any time students can see the number of terms they have mastered.
  • A complete index with definition, audio pronunciation and part of speech for each word.

Focused on games and 3D applications, with playful interface that seeks to introduce innovative gameplay, Aleph Games launches on March 30 its first game for the platform of the iPhone and iPod Touch. The game was already accepted for sales in AppStore.

Through a series of games in the curious world of ants programmed for the future, Aleph, a technology enterprise from Brazil, choose for first release the game AntBlox, a set of physical simulation for IPhone and IPod Touch. One reason for the choice of the physical puzzle with ants was the success of this type of game, which is modeled on the World of Goo and Crayon Physics.

The history of AntBlox is simple — the focus of the game is the gameplay, the experience of gameplay. In it, the ant Antonia feeds on special apples. But apples are in different places, and build a path to it is not always easy.

The goal in each stage is to help the ant to reach the apple. For this, the player must build the road blocks. When you release the blocks, they fall to the ground, so when they are released is important. In addition, phases with earthquake, mud, among many others, make it more difficult to mount the path.

“The game takes advantage of the innovations of the iPhone / iPod touch, using the accelerometer as a method of interaction, with which the player control where the blocks are falling,” said Maicon Brauwers, one of the creators of the game. But the Aleph Games team is already thinking about the next game: “where the player will have to grow your nest, fight other insects, and even dominating other holes,” said Brauwers.

ThinkFlood (http://thinkflood.com/), maker of RedEye universal remote control products for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, today announced RedEye mini. RedEye mini is the affordable ($49), portable way to turn any iPhone, iPod touch or iPad into an advanced universal remote with free, integrated program/channel guide and infrared code database.

RedEye mini users can control their TVs, DVRs, stereos, game consoles, etc., whether they are at home or on the go, and can save button layouts for favorite activities such as, “Watch Blu-ray in Living Room,” “Listen to Music at Work,” or “Watch TV at Gym.”

“The second product in the RedEye line, the RedEye mini, continues our tradition of giving iPhone, iPod touch and iPad owners benefits previously available in remotes costing several times as much,” said ThinkFlood president and founder Matt Eagar. “We also think it’s pretty sweet that RedEye mini is the world’s smallest activity-based remote.”

Why choose RedEye mini?

  • RedEye mini is the most affordable ($49), powerful, and customizable universal remote accessory for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. The free RedEye app — available through the iTunes AppStore — is constantly evolving. RedEye mini users will frequently benefit from new features and functionality via software updates.
  • Unlike other iPhone remotes, RedEye mini plugs into the headphone jack, which frees the dock connector for charging while while the remote is in use. This is a significant advantage because iPhone users will not have to flip their phones upside-down to use the remote, and having a low battery will never leave users stranded without a remote.

Why is RedEye mini the best portable universal remote for iPhone, iPod and iPad?

  • Infrared Code Database & Learning Module — Large, continuously updated database of manufacturer-supplied remote codes for easy set-up. Or use the learning module to quickly train RedEye mini with commands from existing remotes.
  • Program and Channel Guide — Free integrated electronic program guide allows users to access program and channel information without interrupting what is happening on the TV screen.
  • Unlimited Device & Command Capacity — Control a virtually unlimited number of devices; store a virtually unlimited number of commands.
  • Activity Remotes — Customize personal remotes for favorite activities. Example: select useful buttons from existing remotes and place them on one screen for easy access to just the commands needed at the moment.
  • Macros – Customize buttons to send out a series of commands. Examples: touch one button to mute TV volume and turn on closed captioning; touch one button to jump to ESPN.
  • Customizable control – Control equipment with touchscreen buttons, Apple’s Multi-Touch gestures, and accelerometer controls. Examples: swiping two fingers down the screen can lower volume; flicking the iPhone forward can change the channel.

RedEye mini will be available this spring through the ThinkFlood website (http://thinkflood.com/), as well as through participating dealers and retailers.

Apple Computer, Inc. has updated the iPhone developer SDK to allow VoIP over cellular networks. iCall is the first and only VoIP application that functions on the iPhone and iPod Touch over cellular 3G networks.

iCall is a market leader in desktop and mobile-based desktop calling platforms, including its highly popular version for the Apple iPhone.  Until today, restrictions imposed on developers prohibited VoIP functionality on any 3G network.

VoIP on the iPhone has been the source of many debates with companies such as Google being denied access to the platform and the FCC inquiring as to the restrictions in the Apple App Store; iCall is one of the few VoIP applications that has been permitted by Apple to operate on the iPhone platform.

With the latest revisions Apple has made to the iPhone developer agreement and Software Development Kit, iCall for the iPhone and iPod Touch now enabled unrestricted free local and long distance calling over 3G data networks.  iCall with support for VoIP over 3G networks is now available in the App Store for download.  iCall is the first and only VoIP application available for the iPhone platform that allows use over 3G networks.  iCall for the iPhone and iPod Touch may now be downloaded from the App Store at http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/icall-free-voip/id293837001?mt=8&uo=6

iCall CEO Arlo Gilbert is quoted as saying, “I applaud Apple’s decision to allow iCall to extend its functionality beyond Wi-Fi and onto the 3G networks. This heralds a new era for VoIP applications on mobile platforms, especially for iCall and our free calling model. I hope that now more developers will begin using our VoIP as a platform to integrate VoIP into their applications.”

iPad features 12 next-generation Multi-Touch applications. Every app works in both portrait and landscape, automatically animating between views as the user rotates iPad in any direction. The precise Multi-Touch interface makes surfing the web on iPad an entirely new experience, dramatically more interactive and intimate than on a computer. Reading and sending email is fun and easy on iPad’s large screen and almost full-size “soft” keyboard. Import photos from a Mac®, PC or digital camera, see them organized as albums, and enjoy and share them using iPad’s elegant slideshows. Watch movies, TV shows and YouTube, all in HD or flip through pages of an e-book you downloaded from Apple’s new iBookstore while listening to your music collection.

iPad runs almost all of the over 140,000 apps on the App Store, including apps already purchased for your iPhone® or iPod touch®. The iTunes® Store gives you access to the world’s most popular online music, TV and movie store with a catalog of over 11 million songs, over 50,000 TV episodes and over 8,000 films including over 2,000 in stunning high definition video. Apple also announced the new iBooks app for iPad, which includes Apple’s new iBookstore, the best way to browse, buy and read books on a mobile device. The iBookstore will feature books from major and independent publishers.

Apple also introduced a new version of iWork® for iPad, the first desktop-class productivity suite designed specifically for Multi-Touch. With Pages®, Keynote® and Numbers® you can create beautifully formatted documents, stunning presentations with animations and transitions, and spreadsheets with charts, functions and formulas. The three apps will be available separately through the App Store for $9.99 each.

iPad syncs with iTunes just like the iPhone and iPod touch, using the standard Apple 30-pin to USB cable, so you can sync all of your contacts, photos, music, movies, TV shows, applications and more from your Mac or PC. All the apps and content you download on iPad from the App Store, iTunes Store and iBookstore will be automatically synced to your iTunes library the next time you connect with your computer.

iPad’s brilliant 9.7-inch, LED-backlit display features IPS technology to deliver crisp, clear images and consistent color with an ultra-wide 178 degree viewing angle. The highly precise, capacitive Multi-Touch display is amazingly accurate and responsive whether scrolling web pages or playing games. The intelligent soft keyboard pioneered on iPhone takes advantage of iPad’s larger display to offer an almost full-size soft keyboard. iPad also connects to the new iPad Keyboard Dock with a full-size traditional keyboard.

iPad is powered by A4, Apple’s next-generation system-on-a-chip. Designed by Apple, the new A4 chip provides exceptional processor and graphics performance along with long battery life of up to 10 hours.* Apple’s advanced chemistry and Adaptive Charging technology deliver up to 1,000 charge cycles without a significant decrease in battery capacity over a typical five year lifespan.**

iPad comes in two versions—one with Wi-Fi and the other with both Wi-Fi and 3G. iPad includes the latest 802.11n Wi-Fi, and the 3G versions support speeds up to 7.2 Mbps on HSDPA networks. Apple and AT&T announced breakthrough 3G pre-paid data plans for iPad with easy, on-device activation and management.

Continuing Apple’s dedication to designing and creating environmentally responsible products, each iPad enclosure is made of highly recyclable aluminum and comes standard with energy-efficient LED-backlit displays that are mercury-free and made with arsenic-free glass. iPad contains no brominated flame retardants and is completely PVC-free.

Apple today released a new Software Development Kit (SDK) for iPad, so developers can create amazing new applications designed to take advantage of iPad’s capabilities. The SDK includes a simulator that lets developers test and debug their iPad apps on a Mac, and also lets developers create Universal Applications that run on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch.
